Police have issued CCTV pictures of three men they are seeking after a string of jewel thefts including the theft of a ring worth almost £2,000 from a Portsmouth shop.
Detectives believe the theft is one of a series carried out at stores in the south.
Police say that a group of three men have so far they have stolen more than £25,000 from stores in Harrow, Milton Keynes, Thurrock and Enfield as well as the Portsmouth jewellers store.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘It’s also believed the same men struck at a jeweller in Bristol on Tuesday, December 2 but staff became suspicious and they left empty handed.
‘In each case it’s thought they used keys to unlock cabinets containing high value jewellery.
‘The incident in Portsmouth happened between 5.40pm and 6pm on Thursday, November 20 at H Samuel in Commercial Road.
‘Two men were seen acting suspiciously in the shop but left when challenged however a short time later it was noticed the ring was missing and a review of CCTV showed the men had taken the ring.
‘Officers would like to speak with the men shown in the CCTV stills released today about all the thefts including the one in Portsmouth.
‘Anyone with any information about the incident or thinks that they recognise any of the men from the CCTV stills is asked to call Police Staff Investigator Alaina Blight at Fratton Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.’
