POLICE have released an image of a man thought to have committed two robberies in Portsmouth.

A 22-year-old woman had her bag taken as she walked along a footpath behind Castle Tavern in Somers Road.

She fell to the ground and suffered bruising after her bag was snatched.

It contained a Motorola smartphone, a passport, keys and purse with cards and a small amount of cash.

A 21-year-old man was also threatened with violence in Canal Walk and was made to hand over his Nokia Lumia phone.

He was left shaken.

Both incidents, which are being linked, are believed to have happened between 11.35pm and midnight on Friday, February 13.

Police have released an e-fit of the suspect in the hope he can be traced.

Police staff investigator John Briggs said: ‘We are linking these two robberies as they occurred close to each other and within half an hour.

‘The description of the offender is very similar in both cases.

‘Anyone who recognises the man in the e-fit or has any information about who may be responsible should contact police.’

Anyone with information should contact PSI Briggs in the Eastern Investigation team on 101.
