MORE witnesses to an assault outside a Southsea pub are being urged to come forward.

A man in his 50s was taken to hospital after he was found injured outside the Festing Hotel, in Festing Road, shortly after midnight on Christmas Day.

The man remains in hospital where is receiving treatment for head and facial injuries that are serious but not life-threatening.

A man aged in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He was later released on police bail until February pending further inquiries.

Hampshire Constabulary says it would like to thank everyone who has helped with the investigation so far, and want to talk to members of the public who gave first aid to the victim.

The force believe they may have seen or heard what happened outside the pub between midnight and 12.20am.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the attack are asked to call CID at Fratton police station in Portsmouth on 101.
