A WOMAN discovered a man trying to break into her home via an open window.

The victim had been out with friends and returned home about an hour before the attempted burglary.

She was drifting off to sleep when she spotted the man trying to get into her home in Hambrook Road, Gosport, through an open window.

The woman shouted at him and the man walked away.

The incident happened at about 5am on July 24. Police have just released details.

PC Sam Gee said: ‘I would like to speak to anyone with information about this incident. Please get in touch if you saw anyone behaving suspiciously in the area of Hambrook Road in the early hours of Tuesday, July 24.

‘I know it is tempting to leave windows open during hot weather but this allows easy access for thieves. If you want to leave windows open while you sleep, fit window restrictors so they cannot be fully opened, or make sure they are not large enough to allow access to a burglar.’

Call Gosport station on 101.
