DRIVERS are being urged to lock their cars after a series of vehicle crimes in Gosport.

There have been 80 vehicles targeted in the town in the last two months alone.

Many were left unlocked and the most common items stolen were sat navs.

Most of the crimes were committed overnight or early in the morning.

Sergeant Lesley Meenaghan, from Hampshire Constabulary, said: ‘Thieves will look for an easy target.

‘If a member of the public leaves their car unlocked they are extending an open invitation to the criminal to help themselves to the vehicle and its contents.

‘I urge the public to be vigilant in the security of their possessions.

‘Remove your sat nav from your car and leave nothing on display.

‘If you see anyone paying a lot of attention to unattended cars please contact us straight away.’

Anyone with information should contact Sergeant Simon Law at Gosport police station on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
