POLICE want to track down a man who was seen acting suspiciously.

An elderly resident living in Wilmott Lane, Gosport, challenged the man and asked to see some ID when he called at his door offering to carry out repairs to tiles on his roof on Thursday, May 3.

The man then drove away in a white van with a ladder on the roof.

He was described as white, in his mid-20s to early 30s, and 5ft 9in. He wore dark-coloured shoes, smart clean jeans, a brown anorak, and a grey woollen top.

PC Rachel Williams said: ‘I’m appealing for potential witnesses to this man who may have approached other houses in the area last Thursday. This is a suspicious incident involving a man who did not appear to be a legitimate workman.

‘I would also like to advise people not to allow or invite unknown people into their homes. If any cold callers appear suspicious, do not answer the door, and please contact police.’

Anyone with information should contact PC Williams at Gosport police station on 101.
