A MAN was left with sever facial injuries after being attacked in Portsmouth.

The victim, who is in his 20s, needed 15 stitches across his lower lip and face after the assault in Old Commercial Road.

He received other facial injuries during the attack, which happened between midnight and 3am on Sunday, January 1.

The male offender is mixed race, average build and height, and in his mid to late 20s.

Police officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

DC Jim Garrett said: ‘The offender was unknown to the victim.

‘The assault has caused a serious injury and a knife may have been involved.’

He added: ‘Although this occurred in the early hours of the morning there may have been people around who were celebrating New Year’s Eve.’
