MAGISTRATES have jailed a prolific thief for two months after he stole a lawnmower.
Stuart McKenzie took the £170 Mountfield mower from B&Q at the Pompey Centre in Fratton Way.
At the time of the theft he was the subject of a community order made by the magistrates for a previous offence.
The 32-year-old had been given the order for stealing a crate of beer from the Co-op in London Road, North End, and a woman’s handbag from the nearby Good Deal Drug Store.
He was due to appear in court for the latest theft on November 25 but he did not show up.
McKenzie, of Seymour Close, Buckland, pleaded guilty to theft, breaching his community order and failing to attend court when he was brought before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.
