A MAN from Portsmouth has been arrested after a woman died in a car crash.

The 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention.

It comes after a 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead after the crash at 11.15pm on Tuesday.

The crash happened on the A36 at Plaitford.

The man was driving a silver Volkswagen heading south.

He has been bailed until October 31.

The road was closed for six hours after the crash.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or can help with our enquiries.

‘Anyone with information is asked to contact the Whitchurch policing unit on 101, quoting Operation Subdivision.’
