A MAN from Portsmouth has been arrested in connection with a fire that killed six people.

The fire in Barn Mead, Harlow, last October, killed six members of the same family.

Doctor Abdul Shakoor was the only survivor of the blaze.

Police launched a murder investigation after his wife, Sabah Usmani, and their children, Muneeb, 9, Rayyan, 6, Hira, 12, Sohaib, 11, and Maheen, 3, all died.

Essex Police said a 19-year-old man from Portsmouth had been arrested and questioned in connection to the fire and a burglary which happened shortly before.

A 19-year-old man from Harlow was also arrested in connection with the incidents. They have been released on bail.

Another 19-year-old man, also from Harlow, remains on bail after being arrested on an earlier date.
