MAGISTRATES have told a man who was caught carrying a bamboo baton as a weapon to do unpaid work.

Stephen Carter, of York Place, Portsea, pleaded guilty to having an offensive weapon in Ship Leopard Street, Portsea, when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The 48-year-old was ordered to do 150 hours of community service within the next 12 months.
