A MAN caught trying to steal a bike while subject to a suspended sentence for a similar crime has been jailed.

Michael Rowson, 44, of North End Avenue, Portsmouth, admitted committing the offence at Tesco in Crasswell Street, Portsmouth.

He admitted possessing bolt croppers at the store for use in connection with a theft.

Rowson was sentenced to six months in jail by Portsmouth magistrates. An order was made for the bolt croppers to be destroyed.
