FRESH recruits to Portsmouth’s team of community wardens were all smiles after receiving accredited community safety officer status from the city’s top policeman.

Superintendent Norman Mellors, who is in charge of policing in Portsmouth, was joined by Chief Superintendent Richard Rowland for the ceremony at Portsmouth’s civic offices. Roy Goulding, the council’s community warden manager, said: ‘The community wardens provide a vital service to the residents of Portsmouth.

‘This includes preventative measures and where appropriate, enforcement.’
