TWO men accused of committing sexual offences involving children have had their case sent to the crown court.

John Atkinson and Brian Austin, both of Chedworth Crescent, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, have been charged with a number of sexual offences. 

Atkinson, 46, is facing two counts of raping a child, two of sexually assaulting a child and one of arranging a child sex offence.

Austin, 51, is alleged to have helped Atkinson carry out the abuse.

He is charged with two counts of aiding and abetting the rape of a child, two of aiding and abetting the sexual assault of a child and one of arranging a child sex offence.

The offences involve two victims and are alleged to have taken place between October last year and October this year.

The pair appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court yesterday via video-link from Winchester prison where they are in custody.

They were remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court in February when they are due to enter pleas to the charges.
