THIEVES raided an 88-year-old woman’s home while she was in bed.

The burglary happened in Rochford Road, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, between 7am and 7.15am on Friday, December 30.

The thieves stole the woman’s purse which contained £90 and her bank cards. They have since used her bank card in shops in Commercial Road, Portsmouth, and withdrawn £300 from her account.

DC Fiona Wright said: ‘This was a callous crime committed against an older member of the community.

‘I would ask anyone who may be able to help us identify the person or people responsible to contact us.’

Police say the thieves got into the woman’s back garden via a side gate.

They then got into her home after she had opened her kitchen door to let her dogs out in the morning and then gone back to bed.
