It comes after the settlers were told they would be evicted from the car park at Lynx House on Northern Road, Cosham, if they didn’t move on.

Portsmouth City Council took court action after the group arrived on Monday evening.

Among the group’s vehicles were two Bentley Continentals and several Mercedes.

The council’s senior community warden, Warren Amor, confirmed in an email to officials including Tory council leader, Cllr Donna Jones, this afternoon, that just one caravan and one vehicle remain on site - and the rest of the party have taken off for Southampton.

He said: ‘Travellers have been evicted from the site, one caravan and one vehicle remain with issue with tow bar, so we have allowed time for this caravan to be collected.

‘We have briefed Lynx House and advised to call us if there is any sign of further incursion at this site.

‘All the other caravans and vehicles are heading to Southampton on the M27.’
