A SOUTHSEA man is among eight people arrested in connection with child sex offences by a London police force.

Fifty officers took part in early morning raids across London and Hampshire which saw the men arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16, and causing or inciting possession of indecent images of children.

On Tuesday morning an 18-year-old from Southsea was arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16 by Thames Valley Police.

His identity has not been revealed.

Detective chief inspector Kelly Glister said: ‘In the interests of promoting the welfare of victims, it is vital that we act swiftly and efficiently to resolve these types of crimes.

‘Although these are separate incidents and we believe that the suspects are not linked, we felt it was prudent to execute the warrants simultaneously.

‘I would like to reassure members of the public that this investigation is not linked to any wider response to child sex offences.’

The details of all the men arrested are:

A 23-year-old from London arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting possession of indecent images of children, and causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16.

A 20-year-old from Maidenhead arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting possession of indecent images of children, and causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16.

An 18-year-old from Southsea, Hampshire, arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16.

In Wycombe, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16

A 19-year-old from Winchester arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16.

A 21-year-old arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16 and a 22-year-old arrested on suspicion of causing or inciting sexual activity with a child under 16.
