MAGISTRATES have ordered a thief who broke into a car to carry out community service.

Steven Wilson was caught after he stole a sat nav, two Nintendo DS games consoles, a pair of sunglasses and some CDs, worth a total of £465, from Ben Fenton’s Citroen Picasso.

At the time of the offence the 38-year-old was the subject of a conditional discharge having previously been arrested carrying cannabis.

Wilson, of Howard Road, Hilsea, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to theft, possession of a class B drug and breaching a conditional discharge when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

He was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work in the community in the next 12 months and will have 12 months of supervision from the probation service.
