PROLIFIC thief Shaun Doswell has been jailed for 56 days.

The 32-year-old was arrested after stealing £50 worth of meat from a Co-op store in Gosport and £260 worth of goods from a Co-op in Waterlooville.

He also stole food from the Co-op in The Square, Wickham, and from the Co-op in St Albans Road, Havant.

Doswell, who had a conditional discharge hanging over him at the time for a previous offence, was due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on March 1 but he didn’t turn up.

When he was brought before the court Doswell, of Woodhay Walk, Havant, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft and failing to attend court.

The court heard he had a long history of offending and had repeatedly breached community sentences.
