A PAIR of bronze propellers were stolen from a boat yard.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft from Trafalgar Wharf Boat Yard in Portchester between 7.30pm and 8.20pm on Tuesday.

Three men forced a security barrier up before taking in a large flatbed lorry with a Hiab branded crane.

They stole two large bronze three-bladed propellers, approximately six feet in diameter and weighing 1.5 tonnes each.

Each propeller, if sold as scrap, is valued at £8,000 each.

PC Hannah Vardy, of Cosham police station, said: ‘At this time, with scrap metal prices so high, we believe this theft to have been committed by organised offenders who had the equipment to deal with such heavy objects.

‘Anyone who may be vulnerable to thefts of this nature should ensure they have the adequate security measures in place to prevent them becoming a target.’

Anyone with any information is asked to call PC Hannah Vardy at Cosham police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
