MEMBERS of the public are being asked to scrutinise policing.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s Police and Crime Panel needs two new members.

Its purpose is to hold the county’s police and crime commissioner, Michael Lane, to account.

Chairman of the panel, Councillor David Stewart, said: ‘The role of a panel member is an important and demanding one, and we are seeking committed and enthusiastic residents to serve as co-opted independent members from October 2016 for a four-year term.

‘The panel wishes to reflect the breadth of communities across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and it would welcome applications from anyone eligible to be considered.’

Responsibilities include reviewing the draft police and crime plan, scrutinising the annual report and challenging council tax precept levels proposed by the commissioner.

Applications close on August 29.
