THEFT and non-dwelling burglaries remain a problem in rural areas, police figures suggest.

Statistics from Hampshire Constabulary’s Northern area, which covers the Petersfield and Denmead area, show that between July and October last year thefts and non-dwelling burglaries accounted for 50 per cent of total crime reported in rural beats. This amounted to 1,235 offences.

The force has produced a leaflet advising people on how to reduce rural crime. Visit hampshire.pnn.police.uk and search for ‘rural theft’.
