Senior police officer hits out at ‘irresponsible’ drivers after 320 thefts from vehicles

POLICE are hunting a man who grabbed a passer-by and tried to steal his wallet.

The victim was walking home from The Heron pub in Leigh Park when he was grabbed from behind in Littleton Grove, close to the pub.

The robber attempted to steal the 46-year-old victim’s wallet but ran off.

Now police want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, which happened on Sunday, September 30 between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.

Detective Constable Jacqueline Doran, from Waterlooville CID, is in charge of the investigation.

She said: ‘I’d like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything which may help with our investigation.’

The suspect is described as around 6ft tall, had slurred speech, a moustache and was wearing a balaclava, dark clothing and jeans.

He also wore white trainers with a hole in the top of the right trainer.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det Con Doran at Waterlooville police station by phoning 101.
