BURGLARS who tried to break into a property while the homeowner was out are being hunted by police.

The 31-year-old resident returned home to Franklin Road in Gosport to discover the lock on the front door of the property was not working properly.

Police believe a tool of some kind had been used to try and force the door open between 6pm on July 5 and 4.30pm on Saturday.

And the would-be thief did not manage to get into the house.

PC Phillip Hall said: ‘Did you notice any suspicious activity or noise in this area of Bridgemary between last Thursday evening and Saturday?

‘The homeowner used all available security at the premises making it difficult for the offender.

‘Please make sure that you too use all door and window locks when you are out.’

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Hall at Fareham police station on 101.

Information can be given anonymously by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
