SERIAL thief Craig Ballard, who stole more than £1,600 of art supplies, has been jailed.

Ballard pleaded guilty to stealing £871.45 of goods from The Range on Brockhurst Industrial Estate, Gunners Way, Gosport, on August 8.

Ballard, of Magennis Close, Gosport, also admitted stealing goods worth £800.98 six days earlier on August 3.

And he pleaded guilty to stealing chicken and cheese from a Co-op in Rowner Road, Gosport, on October 3.

The 38-year-old admitted committing the crimes while he was subject to a conditional discharge.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to surrender to custody on November 29.

Ballard was jailed for 195 days by Portsmouth magistrates.

He must also pay £1,672.23 compensation to The Range.
