Shock over death of girl and man

A councillor has told of a community's shock after a six-year-old girl was found dying next to the body of a man.

Isle of Wight Council member Julia Baker-Smith lives close to the house in which the tragedy happened.

Today, as police investigated the circumstances that led to the death of the 44-year-old man and two dogs at the home in East Cowes and the death of the girl shortly afterwards, Cllr Baker Smith said: ‘I’m absolutely shocked and devastated.

‘People are so shocked and upset that this could have happened in our community. It’s an absolute tragedy and I can’t believe something like this has happened just 200 yards from my own house.’
