A THIEF who got away with £70 worth of shopping from the Co-op has been told to pay compensation.

Billy O’Sullivan, of Linnet Close, Waterlooville, took the food and drink from the store in Milton Road, Cowplain.

The 33-year-old was due to appear before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court earlier this month but he failed to show up.

When he was brought before the magistrates O’Sullivan pleaded guilty to theft and failing to attend court.

He was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and warned to stay out of trouble for the next year.

The magistrates gave him two weeks to pay £72 in compensation.
