SHOPS and pubs have been caught selling alcohol to children.

A test purchase operation carried out by licensing officers from Sussex Police last week resulted in four premises selling alcohol to volunteers aged under 18.

The premises that failed were Sibel’s Mini Market in Hawthorn Road, Bognor Regis; One-Stop in The Parade, Durston Drive, Bognor Regis; The Southdowns in Felpham Way, Bognor Regis; and West’s Bar in West Street, Chichester.

Sergeant Mike Balmer said: ‘It is extremely disappointing that four premises have failed to meet their responsibility of not selling alcohol to children.

‘Of particular concern is the failure of West’s Bar where staff served children for the second time. We are currently deciding how this matter is to be progressed.’

To report the sale of alcohol to children call 101.
