SIX men have been arrested by police accused of going on a violent rampage in Havant.

A group of young men assaulted a security guard at Tesco Extra, in Solent Road, after being challenged when he suspected they were stealing alcohol.

Ten minutes later, at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, the group approached a 15-year-old boy in Havant Park and demanded he hand over his mobile phone.

The boy is believed to have been threatened with a knife.

The group stole the phone and ran towards the train station.

Police believe the same group was responsible for a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour, criminal damage and an attempted robbery of a mobile phone on the train during the journey between Havant and Fratton.

The group got off the train at Fratton.

Detective Constable Kirsty Burridge, from Waterlooville CID, said police are appealing for witnesses.

Five men aged 18, 19, 21, 23 and 24, from Portsmouth, and a 22-year-old man from Kent have been arrested and remain in custody.

Call police with information on 101.
