THE son of a woman murdered by her violent ex-partner has thanked supporters for their generous donations following his marathon.

Warren Applegate was joined by six friends in running from the street where his mother Julie Sheppard was killed 13 years ago.
Mr Applegate, a 29-year-old engineer, ran from Francis Avenue, Southsea, to Southampton Common for the domestic violence charity Women’s Aid.

In 2004 Howard Woodin was jailed for life for the brutal murder of Mrs Sheppard in a frenzied knife attack.

The team have raised more than £5,200 for the charity.

Mr Applegate, from Chandler’s Ford, said: ‘I would like to thank everyone who has donated. It motivated us so much on the day.

‘A massive thank you goes to the people who manned our water stations, Sainsburys for kindly donating supplies, Vintage Pig for supplying us with T-shirts and Bluewater care home for raising £500 towards our run.

‘Most importantly I’d like to thank those amazing six lads who agreed to run it with me.

‘I couldn’t have done it on my own’.

There is still a week left to make a donation.
