PERFUME thief William Shields has been told to pay compensation.

Shields pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of perfume from Debenhams in Commercial Road, Landport, Portsmouth, on March 18.

Portsmouth magistrates gave the 44-year-old, of Earlsdon Street, Southsea, a 12-month conditional discharge and told him to pay £61.50 in compensation to the store.

He must pay £60 costs.
