A THIEF who assaulted a man at a police station has been jailed.

Karl Avellino, of Waverley Road, Southsea, admitted stealing £22.60 of meat from a Co-op in St James’s Road, Southsea, on July 31.

Avellino also admitted assaulting a man at Portsmouth central police station in Winston Churchill Avenue.

The 29-year-old had denied a charge of stealing a mobile phone in Portsmouth. However he was found guilty by Portsmouth magistrates.

He was jailed for 12 weeks.
