POLICE are trying to locate the owner of a bike they believe was stolen.

The new white, red and black Scott mountain bike was being ridden by a man along Goldsmith Avenue, Southsea.

The man was stopped by police, at 11pm on August 31, as he was cycling on the wrong side of the road with no rear lights.

Following the discovery of a pair of bolt cutters in his possession, he was taken to Portsmouth Central Police Station for further questioning.

He was later arrested on suspicion of theft.

Police are asking residents to check sheds and garages to see if any bicycles have been stolen.

Anyone who recognises the bike is asked to call PSI Johnson or PC Joyner at Portsmouth Central Police Station on 101.
