TWO men needed hospital treatment after they were attacked with a metal pole.

The assault on the two victims, aged 23 and 26, left one with bruising and cuts to the face, and the other with lacerations to the eye.

Police say both men were taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham, by ambulance following the incident at 3pm yesterday.

Officers cordoned off Palmerston Road and Auckland Road East outside Hamilton House to investigate.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘We believe there were stolen items, but we don’t know what yet.

‘We were called at 3.05pm by the ambulance service.

‘The victim with eye injuries needed to stay in hospital overnight because of the extent of it.’

A worker in a restaurant close to the scene of the attack, said: ‘I know police were called out because there was blood on the street.

‘The forensics team was called there.’

A 39-year-old man has been arrested.
