A STUDENT has died after stepping in to help a friend who was being assaulted.

Former Westbourne House School pupil Hamish Howitt, 20, from Chichester, was found dead in bed the morning after being assaulted.

Police said he was with another man who had been assaulted by a man who was part of a group of five.

Hamish stepped in and was also assaulted, causing him to fall to the ground.

Police attended the incident, in Catherine Hill, Frome, Somerset, but neither victims wanted to make a complaint.

The group of men had already left by the time officers arrived. It happened between 11.30pm and 11.40pm on June 30. Now police have released a CCTV images of a man they want to identify.

Lee Mylum, a friend said on Facebook: ‘Still coming to terms with the news but even though I only met you this year, I had the best nights out all over the place with you and created some of the best memories in Plymouth, Bristol and Portsmouth.’
