A STUDENT’S dissertation was stolen from the back of her car.

Samantha Walshaw, who lives in Preston, was passing through Portsmouth with her boyfriend on her way to get a ferry to France for a holiday.

The couple parked their Audi A3 in Hambrook Street while they went out for dinner before the crossing.

When they got back to the car, a window had been smashed and a laptop containing her master’s dissertation on social work had been taken.

Ms Walshaw, 46, said a USB drive containing a back-up had also been stolen.

She said: ‘I feel a little silly that I kept all the information in one place.’

Ms Walshaw had written over half of the 10,000 assignment on ‘emotional intelligence in social work’.

She studies at the University of Central Lancashire and is now rewriting the dissertation. Her deadline has been extended to May 22.

The theft happened on April 5 after 8.30pm. Anyone with information can call Hampshire Constabulary on 101.
