TWO suspected loan sharks have been arrested as police swooped on four addresses in Havant.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team and Hampshire Constabulary executed warrants at four addresses in Warren Park.

A number of documents relating to suspected illegal money lending were seized along with a significant quantity of cash, believed to be thousands of pounds.

The suspects are currently in custody being questioned by officers.

Detective Sergeant Rob Faricy from Hampshire Constabulary said: ‘Today’s operation was the result of a long running investigation into suspected illegal money lending activity and drugs supply in the Havant area.

‘Loan sharks can prey on vulnerable victims who struggle to obtain credit through legitimate means, and often fund their activity through other crime including the supply of drugs.’

Tony Quigley, head of the England Illegal Money Lending Team said: ‘Loan Sharks are not a community service and target people who can least afford it, often charging extortionate amounts of interest.

‘We would urge anybody who is under the control of a loan shark to call us on 0300 555 2222 and we can help.’
