Police are hunting a suspected thief who calmly wheeled a 40inch TV out of a supermarket.

They have issued this CCTV image showing a man who walked into the Sainsbury’s store in Commercial Road, Portsmouth pushing a shopping trolley.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said: ‘He was seen to go to the Audio/Visual aisle, and picked up a boxed 40 inch TV from the display.

‘He balanced on the top of his trolley, before wheeling it out of the store, making no attempt to pay.

‘Security staff challenged the man and recovered the TV, however the suspect ran off.’

Police asked anyone who recognises the man to call them on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on

0800 555 111.
