THE tax man has launched a tough new clampdown on Hampshire’s restaurants.
A crack team of investigators has been assembled by HM Revenue & Customs to probe the tax affairs of local restaurant businesses.
The taskforce is expected to recover £2.5million from firms which break the law.
‘For those deliberately evading tax, be warned that HMRC is coming after you,’ said Mike Eland, HMRC’s director general of enforcement and compliance.
He added: ‘This is not an empty threat – HMRC can and will track you down.’
