A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

It comes after a sex attack investigation was called off by police when the teenage girl involved withdrew the allegation.

A large part of Leigh Park was cordoned off on Friday for a search after a girl said she had been sexually assaulted.

Officers carried out a crime scene investigation and police put out an appeal for information.

But after further interviews with the girl who made the claim, detectives called off the inquiry on Sunday night.

A 17-year-old girl was later arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

She has been bailed until January 13.
