A 16-year-old has been arrested for drink-driving after a car crashed into a lamppost following a short chase by police.
Police were informed of a parked car being hit in Mill Road, Fareham, shortly before 1am yesterday.
A description was given to police patrols and a car was spotted shortly afterwards, with police officers beginning a short chase.
A police spokesman said the officer had been ‘keeping a safe distance and indicating for the car to pull over’ when it crashed into a lamppost at a roundabout on Gosport Road. The car then came to rest on the verge. The driver was treated for non-serious injuries, while firefighters from Fareham Fire Station were also called to the scene to make the area safe.
A police spokesman said: ‘A 16-year old male driver from Gosport has been arrested for driving above the legal alcohol level and remains in custody.’
