A 19-YEAR-OLD has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a crash in which a young girl was killed.

Lewis Young, 19, of no fixed address but formerly of Havant, was charged this morning with a number of offences following the crash in which 16-year-old Payton Sparks died.

It happened on the B2149 Petersfield Road, Havant, at around 10.40pm on May 25.

Payton, from Botley Drive in Havant, died at the scene.

A 14-year-old boy from Havant, the back seat passenger, sustained serious injuries but is now recovering.

Young has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury to another by driving dangerously on a road, aggravated vehicle taking, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, and making off without payment.

He was remanded into custody by Portsmouth Magistrates Court and committed to the crown court at Portsmouth for a hearing on July 15.
