RESIDENTS in Knowle village have been warned to be vigilant against thefts as Christmas approaches.

The Neighbourhood Watch team in Knowle, near Fareham, have advised residents to keep valuable items out of sight in the car and at home.

Gifts bought should be hidden and homes should be securely locked.

They also advised residents to try and make sure they are in when parcels are delivered to their homes.

Nigel Prior, of the Knowle Neighbourhood Watch team, said: ‘In the lead up to Christmas and with the economic situation in the country as a whole, it may increase the risk a little at this time of year.

‘So please be alert help yourselves and your neighbours in keeping your possessions safe and less tempting to would be offenders.’

Mr Prior added that with the current economic climate, Christmas can be a popular time for thieves.

‘Theft can be a simple way for the criminal to acquire their own presents if you make it easy for them,’ he said.

‘And in this tough financial climate, the incentives for theft are stronger than ever.’
