THE desecration of a 13th-century church in West Sussex has left a parish reeling.

Crooks took around 500 half-mooned shaped coping stones, which were part of the ancient walls at Earnley Parish Church, near Bracklesham Bay.

Father Steve Davies said: ‘These stones are very old and rare and have probably been stolen to order to satisfy someone’s greed. These stones are like gold dust.’

The stones were stolen overnight last Sunday. Anyone with information should call police on 101.
