SHOPLIFTER Joseph Shields has been jailed for 12 weeks.

The 51-year-old stole £24 worth of cheese from the Co-op in Forestside Avenue, Havant.

He also took £600 worth of clothing from the Ralph Lauren store at Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays.

Shields, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The magistrates said prison was the only option because Shields refused to comply with the probation service.
