A FAMILY have spoken of their shock after a thief stole bikes from their shed while they slept.

Mum Jenny Wilson was woken up at 4am – when she believes the thief took the two bikes.

The 30-year-old said: ‘We didn’t see it happen but I did wake up at about 4am on Thursday because I heard some metal clanging about in the garden.

‘But I just thought it was the wind because it has been quite bad lately.

‘I’ve got a little Jack Russell, and if he doesn’t bark then I think it’s nothing important.’

Jenny’s 12-year-old son Alex had his £300 red Mongoose Switchback bike stolen. It was a birthday present last year.

Alex, a Year 8 pupil at Bridgemary School pupil, said: ‘I feel angry because I don’t understand why people would steal bikes from other people.

‘I’m sad because that was from my mum and dad, and my family. I used it a lot to go out with my friends for bike rides.

‘To have that stolen is not very nice. I don’t think I’m ever going to look at the shed properly again, to think someone has broken in.’

Another bike, a red Viper Bomber, which the family had been looking after for a relative, was also stolen.

‘They took my husband’s bike, which was given to him by his uncle,’ Jenny added.

‘It’s a bit beaten up, we’re just kind of holding it until his uncle is able to come and collect it.

‘They did take a third one but dumped it down the alleyway because the tyres are flat.

‘They left the younger kids’ bikes.

‘I’ve never had anything pinched before.’

The shed’s padlock is missing so it is not known how it was removed in the theft. It happened between 11pm on Wednesday, January 8 and 7.30am on Thursday, January 9.

The garden in Merstone Road, Gosport, backs on to an alleyway, which only has one entrance and the garden fence had blown down in the bad weather.

Hampshire police are investigating. Call them on 101.
