THIEF Alan Young racially abused a member of staff who tried to stop him stealing a computer from Queen Alexandra Hospital.

The 46-year-old took a computer monitor from the hospital in Cosham on May 14.

When hospital worker Jordan Boyd confronted him Young threatened him and swore at him.

Young, of Alhambra Road, Southsea was arrested and initially denied the offences.

But he eventually changed his pleas to guilty to charges of theft and a racially-aggravated public order offence before the start of his trial at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

District Judge Anne Arnold handed him a 15-week prison sentence, suspended for a year.

Young was also put on a curfew. He will have to wear an electronic tag and stay in his flat between midday and midnight every Friday and Sunday for the next three months.

Young was also ordered to pay £300 in court costs.
