A THIEF took £900 worth of jewellery in a raid at a shop.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the theft at Ernest Jones Jewellers in Commercial Road, Portsmouth.

PC Hannah Waterman, who is investigating the case, is particularly keen to speak to a woman who witnessed the theft.

She saw the man take items of jewellery, including a bracelet and two necklaces, from a display in the shop.

The woman reported the matter to staff who called the police.

But the witness left the shop before officers arrived.

Police believe she could hold vital information that could help catch the thief.

The woman was white, with dark hair and was wearing a light blue coat.

The theft happened between 3.30pm and 3.45pm last Thursday, but police have just released the details.

PC Waterman said: ‘Please could this woman make contact with us and assist with our enquiries.

‘This offence was carried out in the middle of the day and there would have been plenty of people in the area at the time.

‘If anyone else witnessed it please contact us.’

Call PC Waterman at Fratton police station on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
