A POLICE helicopter followed a car through two counties – all because of a toy gun.

Someone called police at 3.05pm today after they suspected two men inside a vehicle in Pulborough, West Sussex, had a handgun with them.

A helicopter from The National Police Air Service was then sent to follow the men as they drove from the village and across the county to Fareham.

They pulled over and police nearby who had been alerted went to the car and asked them to get out.

It was then that officers discovered they just had a toy gun with them.

The men were allowed to go.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: ‘The two gentlemen in the vehicle who were being followed had allegedly been seen with a handgun by a member of the public, who alerted one of our driver training units.

‘The unit relayed that advice and the vehicle was followed by an air unit into Hampshire.

‘The vehicle came to a natural stop.

‘The two gentlemen were taken out of the vehicle and then the situation was resolved after that.’
