POLICE arrested a man following a brawl at a music festival.

Trouble flared at Staunton Live – a free event held at Staunton Country Park, Middle Park Way, Leigh Park.

It is usually trouble-free but things got out of hand when an argument broke out at 3.45pm on Sunday.

Police were called when the row escalated and a security guard was assaulted.

A 41-year-old man from Waterlooville was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and assault. He was bailed until September 6.

In a separate incident, a dog drowned in the park lake.

In a statement Hampshire County Council said: ‘While this year’s Staunton Live was a great success with almost 10,000 people enjoying the 11th annual free festival of live music and family-friendly activities, the event was affected by two incidents.

‘The police were called in connection with an alleged incident between three members of the public and, in a separate incident, a dog very sadly drowned in the lake.

‘We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the owners of the animal, which despite attempts by a park ranger and people nearby, was not able to be resuscitated.’
